Wajarri Language

Teacher: Ms Nadine Taylor

Welcome to the Wajarri Language Class

Our classroom name is Bidi Bidi which is the Wajarri word for a butterfly.

Yanayi (welcome) to the Bidi Bidi Room – Nganhungga wanggangaya Wajarri yanayi (We all speak Wajarri here).

All students are encouraged to have a go at speaking the local language. We are all learning new words, greetings and extending our language vocabulary to hold conversations.

Wajarri language flows through the school with staff and students using everyday greetings such as barndi mungal (good morning), nyinda barndi (you good?) and barndi urda (goodbye).

Next term we will be learning about the season Jandangga (in the cold time) and how the weather affects the environment. We have also discussed what bush food is available during Jandangga and which animals go into hibernation.
